USA Chasing Medals – Who is Still In Contention?
The U.S. delegation delivered another thrilling day of competitions, highlighted by dominant victories and crucial advances into upcoming Finals. The USA athletes showed discipline, teamwork, and resilience as the end of the Deaflympics looms.
The Women’s Deaf National Football Team set the tone early with a commanding 14–0 victory over Great Britain, securing their place in the championship match against Japan. Their performance was punctuated with dances of joy as they continued their undefeated run through the Deaflympics history books.
On the basketball courts, both U.S. teams earned decisive wins. The women’s basketball team defeated Italy 80–52, earning their spot in the Gold Medal final, where they will face Japan. Later in the day, the men’s basketball team outlasted Israel in a physical, intense matchup, winning 76–68 and booking a spot in the Gold Medal match against Ukraine.
In men’s volleyball, the previously undefeated USA team battled Ukraine but fell, 0–3, with scores of 19–25, 17–25, and 18–25. Despite the loss, the team advances to the bronze medal match, seeking their first medal since 1993. On the tennis courts, the American women’s doubles team of Chelsie Brown and Emily Hangstefer continued their strong tournament run and will compete for the bronze medal. The men’s soccer team also prepares for an important match against France, as they eye their first medal, ever.

There is also another opportunity for USA Deaf Track to add to the nation’s medal count. The 4x100-meter relay team—Gareth Ashton, Jarvis Anderson, Eric Gregory, and Taylor Koss—will take to the track with medal ambitions, while first-time Deaflympian Sevan Ikeda will compete in the 5000-meter run.
With multiple championship berths secured and several medal chances ahead, the United States enters the next two days with strong momentum and confidence.
Swimming Shines Bright Once Again
The U.S. swim team lit up the pool once again today with another slate of historic performances.

Matthew Klotz opened the day with a standout swim in the 50 meter backstroke, surging to gold in 25.94 and setting a new world record in the process. Carli Cronk followed with a dominant double, capturing gold in the 200 meter butterfly with a 2:10.84 world record, then returning to take the 400 meter individual medley in 4:55.47 for a new Deaflympics record.
The success continued in the relays. Collin Davis, Syler Pizzolato, Marcus Titus, and Matthew Klotz combined efforts in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay to claim bronze in a hard fought race.
Today brought another powerful showing for USA Deaf Swimming in the pool, and the fun continues tomorrow, with multiple chances of chasing Deaflympic Gold.
