Games Preparation Committee Appoints New Communications And Media Specialist

SIOUX FALLS, SD — August 27, 2008 — Chris Kaftan has been appointed by the Games Preparation Committee (GPC) as its Communications and Media Specialist.

Kaftan will assume responsibilities of USADSF and US Team news for the Deaflympics, World Championships, and Pan American Deaf Sports Organization (PANAMDES).

Kaftan has extensive experience in the field of sports journalism, having both published in print and online newspapers. Kaftan served on the Media Team for USADSF at the 2001 Summer Deaflympics and will serve as the coordinator for the Media Team for the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei.

Among his journalism experiences, Kaftan has served as sports editor and editor in chief of The Buff and Blue student newspaper at Gallaudet University and has written for Silent News, www.i711.com, and other publications.

Billy Bowman, the GPC director had this to say: “I am quite impressed with his knowledge, skills and experience and I hope his assets will put us to the next level.”

Kaftan starts his job immediately and will start assembling his Media Team in the upcoming months.

When not working at the computer monitor, Kaftan is a high school social studies teacher at a residential school for the deaf and is married to Allison and they have a 6-year old Deaf daughter.
