Games Preparation Committee Announces New Mission Statement

SIOUX FALLS, SD — August 25, 2008 — The Games Preparation Committee (GPC) has announced a new mission statement to reflect the changing structure of deaf sports.

GPC chairperson Billy Bowman has announced that the new mission statement is:

To support the United States Team athletes in achieving excellence in athletics and preserving the ideals of the Deaflympics by fostering growth of identity and inspiring goodwill for all deaf and hard of hearing Americans.

Our Core Beliefs:

Athletes are our focus;
Service is our responsibility;
Quality is our reputation;
Teamwork is the key to our success.

Bowman explained the new mission statement in a few simple words, “we mean business.”

“This is an indication of our new business plan that will bring our athletes--the best of the best, nothing less to the Deaflympics,” Bowman said. “We are committed to maximizing the potential of the US Team by providing resources that will yield favorable results.”

The GPC is a standing committee under the auspices of the USA Deaf Sports Federation, responsible for the development and coordination of the USA Team for the Deaflympics, the Pan American Deaf Games and all world championships. The GPC is now working on preparations for the 21st Summer Deaflympics to take place in September 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan.
