USA Deaf Shooting Seeking Male and Female Shooters

SIOUX FALLS, SD — April 7, 2008 — The USA Deaf Shooting is seeking to identify deaf individuals who are interested in participating in shooting competition leading up to the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei, Taiwan on September 5-15, 2009.

Qualified individuals must be members of the National Rifle Association and have a Gun Safety Certificate, as well as experience with .22 and .177 caliber rifles and pistols in accordance with USA Shooting regulations. Eligibility

To be eligible for selection, a bona-fide athlete must be an U.S. citizen by November 1, 2007 and a registered athlete member of the USADSF and USA Deaf Shooting and NRA.

An athlete must have a hearing loss of at least 55dB in both ears (3 tone frequency average of 500, 1,000 and 2,000 Hertz, ISO 1964 standard) to be eligible to participate in the try-outs and the Deaflympics.

Qualifying Standards

To be considered for selection to the USA Deaf Shooting Team, athletes must have participated in at least two USA Shooting sanctioned competitions during the past 6 months. Furthermore, in these two competitions the average of their combined scores should also meet the following qualifying standards:

50m free Rifle 60 shots prone - 560 points
50 Free Rifle 3 x 40 shots (prone, standing and kneeling) - 1060 points
10m Air Rifle 60 shots - 550 points
50m Free Pistol 60 shots - 475 points
25m Rapid fire Pistol - 560 points
10m Air Pistol 60 shots - 550 points
