SIOUX FALLS, SD — December 21, 2007 — The USA Deaf Sports Federation is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Lewis of Frederick, MD will be joining the 2011 U.S. Winter Team in the capacity of Team Director beginning immediately. The US Team will be participating in the next Winter Deaflympics at High Tatras, Slovakia from 11 February to 20 February 2011.

Jeff had previously served as Team Director of the US Winter Teams that went to the Winter Deaflympics in 1995, 1999 and 2003. In 2005, Jeff joined the 2007 Salt Lake City Winter Deaflympics Local Organizing Committee (LOC). He served as one of three Vice-Chairs, focusing on competition and venues.

In addition to his clinical private practice, he is Professor and Director of the Mental Health Counseling Program at Gallaudet University. He is an author of several publications.

Jeff has a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years in the Winter Deaflympics, not to mention his stint as a swimmer for the US Team in the 1973 Summer Deaflympics. He will undoubtedly provide a sense of continuity and new perspective for the 2011 US Team. Jeff commented at a recent board meeting this month that taking this position presents an exciting challenge for him as well as getting back into the dynamic environment that will build a stronger US team.

Billy Bowman, Chair of Games Preparation Committee, added that the revised criteria for athletes has been redefined to assure that the U.S. Winter Team will field athletes who are considered to be the best of the best.
