Volunteer Position Wanted: Communications/Media Specialist

SIOUX FALLS, SD — December 20, 2007 — The USA Deaf Sports Federation’s Games Preparation Committee (GPC) is seeking a qualified volunteer who will assume the responsibility of coordinating all aspects of communication activities for all international events.

The specialist will be expected to perform as follows:

  1. Serve as a reporter including writing an article for the USADSF on all international events
  2. Provide daily news summaries for the US Team at both Summer and Winter Deaflympics
  3. Coordinate the daily activities of the U.S. Media team at the Deaflympics. The media team consists of interns from the undergraduate programs. The US Media team will include several reporters, web designers, webmaster, photographers, and TV producer/crew
  4. Prepare and support our athletes with materials for media interviews

Qualifications required:

  1. Master’s Degree in Communications or Journalism is preferred
  2. Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  3. Proficient in American Sign Language
  4. Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment
  5. Experience specifically in the arena of Web/Internet technology
  6. Experience in managing a workgroup or a media team

The position is strictly volunteer. This position is most sought after and an opportunity to travel abroad! The individual will be expected to attend all GPC and U.S. Summer/Winter Team Committee meetings, approximately 6 times a year. All approved expenses including travel, lodging and meals related to the events and meetings will be fully paid or reimbursed.
