Head Coach Position Opening for US Deaf National Tennis Team

SIOUX FALLS, SD — December 14, 2007 — The Tennis Committee of USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) is pleased to announce a Head Coach position for the USA National Men and Women Tennis Teams, starting May 1, 2008.

The teams will have a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach. The coach term will continue until the conclusion of the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei, Taiwan by September 30, 2009, provided that the coach has successfully met certain pre-Deaflympic requirements.

The general responsibilities of the Head Coach are as follows:

  1. to select a qualified Assistant Coach,
  2. to recruit deaf and hard of hearing tennis athletes,
  3. to evaluate and place athletes on the National Tennis Teams,
  4. to organize and collaborate with the Tennis Selection Committee during tryouts or national championship,
  5. to prepare the National Tennis Teams for domestic and international tennis matches, and
  6. to maintain expression and reception in sign communication skills throughout the term.

Due to the nature of working with deaf and hard of hearing tennis athletes, coaches should be able to demonstrate knowledge of deafness and expressive/receptive sign communication skills.
