Apply for Positions as Coaches of 2007 US Ski and Snowboard Team

TELLURIDE, CO — September 6, 2005 — The US Deaf Ski & Snowboard Association (USDSSA) is seeking alpine skiing and snowboarding coaches (one head coach and one assistant coach for each) and one cross country ski coach with experience in racing (and pipe coaching for snowboarding).

Alpine ski and snowboard coaches are expected to participate in the following events:

  • the US Deaf Ski & Snowboard Teams Tryouts at Telluride, CO during 12-19 March 2006
  • the Deaflympics Games at Park City, UT during 01-10 February 2007
  • a 1 to 1.5 week training camp prior to the 2007 Deaflympics Winter Games

It is desirable, but not required, that alpine and snowboard coaches are available for half-day racing clinics that could be planned on a weekend (USDSSA sponsored clinics dependent upon on availability of USDSSA funds) within their locality.

The Nordic ski coach is expected to participate in the Deaflympics Games and the one week training camp prior to the Games.

Candidates should have the ability to communicate with deaf and hard of hearing athletes and have some fluency in sign language. Candidates must possess a valid ski or snowboard coach certificate.

All applicants for coaching positions must submit a resume, a letter of interest, and three references to the USDSSA coach selection committee by 01 November 2005. Submit application package to:

US Deaf Ski & Snowboard Association is a non-profit recreational and competitive organization of Deaf and hard-of-hearing skiers and snowboarders, founded in 1968. USDSSA is a National Sports Organization (NSO) member of the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) and is an affiliate member of the US Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA). USADSF is recognized by the DEAFLYMPICS as the sole national governing body of deaf sports in the United States. The International Olympic Committee recognizes the DEAFLYMPICS as having oversight of the Deaflympic Games and international competitions for the deaf and hard of hearing.
