Guest Editorial: Why was there a drop in US Team's medal count?

The article was published on page 16 in the May 2005 issue of SIGNews. Unfortunately, due to an error in compiling a list of athletes and staff on the 2001 US Team and a missing TOTAL column, the table shown in the article is incorrect. The correct 1989-2005 medal tally table is as follows:
