The first USADSF eNewsletter was launched on March 1. If you subscribed afterwards and missed the early train, you can always jump aboard the caboose by going to the News & Media link and catching up with the latest in the News Archives. Please continue to spread the word about the USADSF eNews among your family, friends, deaf communities, and various organizations by forwarding this eNews to them and encouraging them to subscribe. That’s the sure way to expand the subscription list and increase awareness among all of us. Two important announcements are mentioned here - Sorenson becoming the first major sponsor of the 2007 Winter Deaflympics and USADSF's joint efforts with Mini Deaf Youth Sports Festival to host trials for the 2006 Youth PanAmDes this summer in Kentucky. The date and location of a regional basketball tournament in the March 1 eNews have been corrected in this issue. USADSF apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. NSOs and sport ad hocs - please make sure your event data (date, location, and contact) are submitted in whole and accurate to the USADSF Home Office. TBA's and TBD's should be avoided, if possible, as they require follow-ups and re-editing of event data at a later time. A new section, "Around the Sport World," is added here. It highlights what's happening in the world of sports where our deaf and hard of hearing are competing in, as well as any news tidbit worth reporting here. Individuals, sports, organizations, and names of events stand out in bold calling for your attention. Sincerely, John Knetzger Athlete Donald Tropp wrote an account of his US Men's Handball team's medal-winning performance at the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne last January. Gallaudet Athletes Rake in Accolades at 2005 Deaflympics Twenty-eight student-athletes from Gallaudet University participated in the 2005 Deaflympics. Bison junior Tamijo Foronda, a bronze medalist in beach volleyball, was selected from among all athletes age 25 and under to receive WIDEX's international award for demonstration of fair play and sportsmanship. In addition, 17 of her fellow Bison collegemates earned medals in various events. Gallaudet's Sports Information desk issued a press release. Deaf Youth Sports Festival Serves as Site of 2006 Youth PanAmDes Trials USA Deaf Sports Federation and Deaf Youth Sports Festival, Inc. proudly announce joint efforts to launch the 2006 Youth PanAmDes Trials during the Deaf Youth Sports Festival July 24-30, 2005 at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. Participants who will be 10 to 15 years old in August of 2006, and have at least a 55 dB hearing loss in the better ear will be eligible to participate in the 2006 Youth PanAmDes to be held at Gallaudet University on August 1-8, 2006. For details regarding the trials and 2006 event, please contact the USADSF Home Office at: Alpine Skiing: (March 5) Amanda Goyne was selected to compete along with 20 other top USSA women alpine ski racers in the North America Cup Finals being held at Craigleith / Georgian Peaks 90 miles outside of Toronto Canada. The United States team will compete against the top Canadian racers and other countries in two giant slalom and two slalom alpine events starting March 8th.
