INSIDE THIS ISSUE

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

The first USADSF eNewsletter was launched on March 1. If you subscribed afterwards and missed the early train, you can always jump aboard the caboose by going to the News & Media link and catching up with the latest in the News Archives.

Please continue to spread the word about the USADSF eNews among your family, friends, deaf communities, and various organizations by forwarding this eNews to them and encouraging them to subscribe. That’s the sure way to expand the subscription list and increase awareness among all of us.

Two important announcements are mentioned here - Sorenson becoming the first major sponsor of the 2007 Winter Deaflympics and USADSF's joint efforts with Mini Deaf Youth Sports Festival to host trials for the 2006 Youth PanAmDes this summer in Kentucky.

The date and location of a regional basketball tournament in the March 1 eNews have been corrected in this issue. USADSF apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. NSOs and sport ad hocs - please make sure your event data (date, location, and contact) are submitted in whole and accurate to the USADSF Home Office. TBA's and TBD's should be avoided, if possible, as they require follow-ups and re-editing of event data at a later time.

A new section, "Around the Sport World," is added here. It highlights what's happening in the world of sports where our deaf and hard of hearing are competing in, as well as any news tidbit worth reporting here. Individuals, sports, organizations, and names of events stand out in bold calling for your attention. USADSF's 2003 Sportswoman of the Year, Amanda Goyne, receives the honor of being the first to be listed here. Good luck to her! Many thanks to our home office specialist D. Cole Zulauf for his suggestion.

Feature articles are always welcome.  Here's one on USA Team Handball's silver medal efforts in Melbourne. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

John Knetzger
Vice President of Member Services

Sorenson Media Becomes First Major Sponsor of 2007 Winter Deaflympics

On February 17, a press conference was held at the Governor's Mansion in Salt Lake City to announce Sorenson Media's $250,000 sponsorship of the 2007 Winter Deaflympics. Sorenson Media is the nation's largest Video Relay Service (VRS) provider for the deaf. A press release and a video of the press conference are available at the official 2007 Deaflympics website: www.2007Deaflympics.com.

In addition, the 2007 Games website has been extensively updated recently to help you find the information you are looking for regarding the 2007 Games, so bookmark that and pass this announcement on to your friends and local Deaf community organizations.
