USADSF Announces Special House of Delegates Session

SIOUX FALLS, SD — December 30, 2003 — A special session of the House of Delegates will convene at 9:00AM on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the McKay Events Center on the Utah Valley State College campus in Orem, Utah. The delegates in attendance will be given an opportunity to debate and decide on the proposed increase in individual membership dues.

The delegates at the 2003 House of Delegates meeting in November 2003 moved to schedule a special session to address the USADSF Budget Committee's proposal to increase the individual membership dues from the current rate of $10 to $25. President Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins says, "This is an important and contentious issue because the Federation has been operating under very tight financial constraints since 2002 when the U.S. Olympic Committee discontinued annual member services grants." She continued, "Unless we find additional reliable sources of revenues elsewhere, the current level of membership dues is inadequate in supporting and expanding the Federation's services to its membership."

The special session's quorum will be determined on March 15, 2004. The membership dues and costs associated with membership support will be the only item on the agenda. A regular 2004 House of Delegates meeting will convene in Louisville, Kentucky during the first weekend of November 2004.

USADSF recognizes the kind assistance and generous support given by USA Deaf Basketball (USADB) for providing the meeting facility at the McKay Events Center, where USADB is hosting its 60th annual national basketball tournament during the same weekend as well. Each accredited delegate will be given a complimentary admission ticket to the USADB basketball games.

All eligible delegates are to contact Jason Gunderson for the Delegate Credential form, a copy of the 2003 House of Delegates minutes, and the 2003 version of the Federation's bylaws. The deadline for registration is March 15, 2004.
