LEXINGTON, KY: October 12, 2012 – The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) announced the list of sporting events that will be featured at the 22nd Summer Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria, next summer.

Among these sports featured are: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Cycling, Football, Judo, Karate, Orienteering, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Wrestling, said ICSD Sports Manager Christof Niklaus in an email to member nations today.

While there was some buzz regarding the return of Team Handball, ICSD has not approved including that in the 2013 Summer Deaflympics due to international appeal. ICSD has recommended Team Handball to host a World Deaf Handball Championships after 2013 to increase participation and to solidify the inclusion of that sport in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics.

In the meantime, USADSF urges all NSOs to continue planning while we await further details regarding logistics and other time-sensitive matters from ICSD.
