FAY NUTT

Arkansas

Basketball - Fordyce, Little Rock, WGD

Headshot of FAY NUTT

The main reason why Fay has had to wait so long to be elected to the Hall of Fame is that he had the misfortune to have played on the famed Little Rock Silents basketball teams alongside his more flamboyant brothers, Clyde and Houston, as well as the legendary John L. Jackson. All three of them preceded Fay into the Hall of Fame and now his long wait is ended.

In spite of the lengthy shadows cast by his fabulous teammates, Fay always managed to show well on the playing court. No records were kept during those years on rebounds but those of us who saw Fay play know that he pulled down more than his share. Regardless of his high-scoring teammates, Fay could and did score with the best. In fact, some of you may be surprised to learn that Fay ranks 9th on the all-time American Athletic Association of the Deaf (AAAD) scoring list. Although he won All-Star honors only once, he was a high scorer with 60 points in three games with the USA team which won gold medals for the first time in World Games for the Deaf (WGD) competition in Milan, Italy in 1957.

“All things come to him who waits.”
