NextWeb of Covad Communications to Provide Live Video Coverage of World Deaf Cycling Championships
FREMONT, Calif., (May 22, 2006) - World Deaf Cycling Championships is pleased to announce a partnership with NextWeb, a division of Covad Communications, in providing comprehensive live video coverage. NextWeb will provide 10 hours of streaming video for the 1000m sprints and 40km Points Race on Monday, June 19 and Thursday, June 22, respectively, while updates during the races will be reported live by DeafNation, another WDCC media partner.

The 2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships will feature elite contestants from 11 countries. USA is hosting the international week-long event for the first time ever, and all the events will be located in the Bay Area of California from June 18 to 24, 2006.
"Although results of international deaf sporting events have in the past been announced immediately, never has any event been covered as extensively as WDCC will be. We are taking it to a far higher level," said Robin Horwitz, chairperson of the 2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships.
The 1000m Sprint coverage will be from 5:00pm to 11:00 pm PDT, Monday, June 19, and will begin with a special announcement to kick off the World Deaf Cycling Championships. The live video coverage will return again on Thursday, June 22.
The 40km race will be open to cyclists competing in the categories of Pros 1/2/3 and will be offered as an exhibition. Seventy-two spots are open and are expected to fill up by the race day.

The 2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships is sanctioned by the International Committee of Deaf Sports, a member of the International Olympic Committee, and is hosted by the USA Deaf Sports Federation, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
