2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships Schedule Released
FREMONT, Calif., (February 1, 2006) – The 2006 World Deaf Cycling
Championships (WDCC) committee has released its event schedule. USA is
hosting the international week-long event for the first time ever and
the championships will feature elite contestants from 10 countries. The
complete 2006 WDCC schedule can be found at

Featured venues include the Hellyer Velodrome in San Jose for the 1000m
Sprint and Points Race. “The Hellyer Velodrome will be the location for
two evenings of high-speed and close racing,” said Robin Horwitz, the
2006 WDCC director. “The championships will close out with a 75-mile
(120km) road race on a spectacular 28-mile loop through coastal dunes
and redwood groves in and around the coastal town of Pescadero."
Monday June 19, Hellyer Velodrome will be the location of the
1000m Sprint. “In addition to the 1000m Sprint, the schedule will also
include Northern California Track Racers competitions which will make
for an exciting evening for all teams and fans in Northern California.”
Plans for the evening include entertainment and an exposition.
Tuesday, June 20, the Individual Time Trial will be hosted at
Coyote Lake in San Jose. This course will test cyclists’ legs with the
rolling hills and their technical skills on the curves.
Wednesday, June 21, the Mountain Bike Race will be hosted at
Santa Teresa Park in San Jose. This is the first time Mountain Bike Race
has been included in the World Deaf Cycling Championships and will
provide fans with plenty of excitement on a short track course.
Thursday, June 22, the thrilling and fast Points Race will be at
Hellyer Velodrome once again with entertainment and an exposition.
Traditionally, the Points Race has always been fast. The sprints for
points during the race will take place several times and will create
excitement.
Friday, June 23, the Mountain Bike Race will once again be at the
Santa Teresa Park in San Jose. This will be a long distance course which
will provide cyclists with plenty of challenge, especially with hills
and the heat.
Saturday, June 24, On Saturday, June 24, the 75-mile Pescadero
Road Race, hosted annually by the local cycling club Alto Velo,
KeefeTeam Realtors and Webcor Builders, was selected because of several
reasons. “The course is challenging, scenic and a perfect ending to the
week of racing,” said Horwitz. “This course is extremely hilly, twisty
and fast. The cyclists are in for a treat; this is one of the best
courses anywhere.” The World Deaf Cycling Championships banquet will be
held that evening at City Beach in Fremont, Calif., where video
highlights of the 75-Mile Pescadero Road Race will be shown.
All races and others will be covered by DeafNation, the 2006 WDCC media
partner, and daily streaming video and immediate race results will be
available online. This will enable the international community to root
for their champions and for coaches, family, friends, and sponsors to
keep abreast of WDCC race results.
About the 2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships
The 2006 World Deaf Cycling Championships is sanctioned by the
International Committee of Deaf Sports, a member of the International
Olympic Committee, and is hosted by the USA Deaf Sports Federation, a
member of the U.S. Olympic Committee. The week-long international event
will take place in San Francisco, California from June 18 to 24, 2006
